Yun Sol / Product proposal

Independent application case · Stripe Global Self-Serve Product · 3-minute read

Unblock the
first real sale.

I'm Yun Sol. I created this case to show how I would test a growth opportunity: helping launch-ready merchants who stall before their first customer payment.

The opportunity

A merchant has set up payments and planned a launch, but still has no sales. Another setup checklist may not help. First understand what is actually blocking them.

My recommendation

First Sale Recovery: a targeted check-in inside Stripe's existing assistant. Clarify the problem, check the evidence, and help the merchant take the right next step.

Recognise the momentVerify the blockerHelp complete the right action

Proposed extension, not a new Stripe capability or a verified product gap. The hypothesis is incremental activation—not a better way to create Payment Links.

01 / A recovery, not another setup flow

Nadia already has a live payment page.
What went wrong?

Scripted prototype · Not live AI

Nadia teaches online design workshops in Singapore. Her planned launch was yesterday. Payments are enabled and a live page exists, but no real customer payment has arrived.

First Sale Recovery · Proposed assistant mode

A relevant invitation—not a verdict

Your planned launch has passed. Need a hand?

No first payment is a signal to offer help, not proof that something is broken.

The merchant can decline. No automatic changes.

All messages, records and tool checks are scripted and synthetic. No model, account, website inspection or payment API is connected. State clears on reload.

What is the improvement over Stripe's existing tools?

Stripe's Dashboard assistant already answers questions and creates Payment Links. Checkout studio already supports setup, diagnosis, recommendations and experiments.

The proposed difference: bring existing help to an eligible, stalled merchant; ask the missing question; preserve context through a reviewed action. Do not build a second assistant or duplicate a working page.

Still unknown: whether Stripe already delivers this exact recovery journey, how many merchants need it, and whether it beats today's experience. Audit the authenticated product before claiming a gap.

02 / Prove the targeting. Then prove the AI.

Does timely help create
more real first sales?

First audit the current journey and observe 6–8 launch-ready merchants. Verify the barrier before funding a pilot.

A

Today's experience

Keep Stripe's current onboarding, recommendations and assistant access. Not an artificially weak control.

B

Targeted, structured help

The same recovery trigger, with fixed diagnostic questions and evidence checks. This tests timing and workflow.

C

AI-assisted recovery

The same trigger and tools, with conversational clarification and explanation. This tests AI's added value over B.

Primary · Within 14 days of assignment

More eligible merchants get a first genuine customer payment.

Use all assigned merchants—not just those who open the assistant. Exclude test and self-payments using fixed rules.

Business value · Days 15–60

Durable processing that justifies the cost.

Read net volume and contribution after AI and support costs, alongside refunds, fraud and disputes.

Scale

Credible activation lift, durable value and acceptable risk. Scale AI only if C adds worthwhile value over B.

Iterate

Targeting helps but AI doesn't. Keep the simpler recovery flow and improve the diagnosis.

Stop

No incremental activation, harmful changes, intrusive nudges or an existing journey already solves it.

Rollout, AI controls and market selection

Sequence: current-product audit and discovery; offline AI evaluation; a limited randomised pilot; then mature activation, economics and risk reads. Agree minimum worthwhile uplift, sample size and harm limits before launch. If traffic cannot support three arms, stage A/B first, then B/C.

AI's job: clarify ambiguous replies and explain approved facts in the merchant's language. Reliable tools determine account status. Rules determine eligibility. The merchant approves changes; uncertainty leads to a question or handoff, not a guessed fix.

Release bar: test incorrect diagnoses, unsupported recommendations, prompt injection, stale data and unauthorised access. Monitor language quality, opt-outs and complaints. Do not relax verification, change prices or contact buyers autonomously.

International scale: Singapore illustrates the journey, not market priority. Compare recoverable activation loss and economics by market. Reuse trigger and evidence definitions, while reviewing local language, account requirements and supported actions separately. No lift or revenue forecast is claimed.

03 / Why my experience is relevant

Find the barrier.
Don't just add a feature.

My consumer-product work spans 0-to-1 launches, regional go-to-market, segmentation, monetisation, live operations and P&L ownership across SEA and selected APAC markets.

I have also led practical AI adoption across five disciplines, with workflow selection and quality standards. I would bring both habits here: target a specific user problem, test the commercial outcome, and hold AI to a higher bar than “the demo works”.

Sources, assumptions and limits

Existing capability: Dashboard assistant, Checkout studio and Payment Links. Stripe Console separately describes broader diagnosis and actions in private preview. Documentation does not establish availability for every account or market.

Proposal, not discovery: the recovery trigger, journey and incremental-growth hypothesis are my judgement. Product overlap, prevalence, internal data access and economics remain unverified. No merchant interviews have been conducted for this case.

Synthetic example: Nadia, launch timing, replies, S$60 price, page status and payment events are fictional. The browser uses fixed logic, not a live LLM. A simulated payment is not evidence of product impact.

Production requirements: consent and lawful data use, access controls, current product rules, approved content, audit logs, safe tools, human confirmation and ongoing evaluation. No claim of payments-industry employment or access to Stripe's internal plans.
